Medeski, Martin & Wood – Combustication

Any album by MMW is definitely worth of posting, but this one is the perfect starter.  This is groovy, acid, funky, bluesy, jammed out by the genre’s most progressive and increasingly more influential touring trio,  released on August 11, 1998 for Blue Note records, album that is definitely one of my favorites of all time. Whole band is playing amazingly here, but Medeski’s organ is really on fire all the way through, the colors of his instruments are absolutely shining. Not only the songs are great, the album, as all great albums do, flows perfectly. Enjoy!

Medeski Martin & Wood (or MMW) is an American avant-jazz-funk organ trio formed in 1991, consisting of John Medeski on keyboards and piano, Billy Martin on drums and percussion, and Chris Wood on double bass and bass guitar.
The band draws on influences from a number of musical traditions, from funk to hip hop, and is known for an unconventional style sometimes described as “avant-groove”.
