Curtis Mayfield – Roots

Opening with the hit “Get Down,” this album soars on some of the sweetest and most eloquent – yet driving – soul sounds heard up to that time. Roots, released in 1971 for Curtom records, flows and resonants through the listener with a harmony that is contagious as only few of soul albums are. Enjoy it!

On August 13, 1990, Mayfield was paralyzed from the neck down after stage lighting equipment fell on him at an outdoor concert at Wingate Field in Flatbush, Brooklyn, New York. He was unable to play guitar, but he wrote, sang, and directed the recording of his last album, New World Order.

New World Order you’ll be able to hear in one of my future posts!
